Our History
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
32 Years of Compassion
In 1975, with the belief that broad-sweeping euthanasia is an unacceptable means of controlling animal overpopulation, Mrs. Julson started adopting dogs from the local dog control facility and placing them from her home.
As the innovative idea of No-Kill grew, a network of satellite foster homes was established to allow for a greater number of animals to be saved. As a result of this network, the Yamhill County Humane Society was established.
With ever-increasing numbers of unwanted pets, a permanent shelter was needed. With dedicated community members working hard, YCHS was able to purchase and renovate the site of our present shelter. The new shelter opened in June, 1980.
Homeward Bound Pets is an independent, non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that operates solely from shelter relinquish and adoption fees, funds raised and contributions from caring, concerned citizens. We are dedicated to No-Kill and therefore do not receive funding from any governmental agency.
We appreciate and thank all that help and support us in our mission.
