A Journey Away

I took a journey away from you,
to clear my mind,
and focus on my world.
I traveled far,
longer than I wanted to,
through traffic jams and darkness.
While going to my destination,
I was hungry and tired
and irritable and sad.
Finally, I nourished myself and rested.
I didn't want my life to be so complicated,
or make decisions that would cause misery.
I looked at all I had and
couldn't give it away.
I missed you.
Then, I saw a light,
I prayed for guidance,
and felt God's love for me.
I knew that all this needed to happen.
I knew I wanted to keep
all that I had been fighting for.
I felt happiness and sorrow touch me.
Me, in my stubborness and rebellion,
found hope in all the difficulty.
And then, I knew I gained
something of great worth.
