Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Rapid Response Conference

As many already know, our local will have 3 delegates at the USW Rapid Response Conference. Training will take place from June 20-22 in Washington D.C. for Jeff Mode, Scott Henning and I. We currently have a Rapid Response Committee at our local. This conference will help enhance what we are doing and highlight where we need improvement.

Rapid Response tackles topics, from voter registration drives to lobbing legislators on industry and labor specific subjects. The training will include a trip to the capitol and meetings with delegates state Senators and Representatives. This conference will help us improve our current Rapid Response Program. Scott and Jeff are committed to implementing a more effective RRP.

Additionally the company has also offered to pay their lost time. This pledge by the Company is much appreciated and should not go unnoticed. We look forward to being a positive example for other locals and vigorously promoting labor and advocating for our industry.

Committee Openings

There are many positions open on Committees. Each department should have a safety representative.  Spots are open in Merchant Bar, RM 1 and Maintenance. If you’re interested call the local. Look for announcements on specifics in the mill soon. Next month we will be scheduling meetings for Women of Steel (WOS) and Steelworker Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) Chapter.

Booth at the Fair

Plans are being made for us to have a booth at the upcoming fair. A sponsor is being sought to cover part of the expenses. If you have ideas or would like to help staff the booth let us know.

Donations

Our local is a non profit organization, and donations are tax deductible. One of our members is donating an A.C. If you have an item that you think might be of use, let us know.

Picnic

In other news a Union picnic is in the planning stages. If you have ideas or want to volunteer your time to help or serve on the Picnic Committee please call.

Grievance Meeting

Grievance meeting was held recently. Chris Stewart will serve as the Roll Shop Grievance Person. Scott Henning was re-elected to Chair with Jeff Mode serving as Vice-Chair. Each department needs to have assistant Grievance Persons. All departments should have stewards in place on each crew as well as assistant stewards. If you’re interested in serving, let Scott or Jeff know.

And to those who are serving in a position(s) already, thank you!

If you have any other concerns contact me at the local.

In Solidarity,

Joe Munger Sr.

President
