Co. D, 2nd United States
Sharpshooters

New Model 1859 Sharps Rifle

After the debacle at Bull Run, a wealthy inventor named Hiram Berdan, himself one of the best and best-known sport shooters in the nation began promoting the concept of a Sharpshooter Regiment. To him, it was only logical that a small group that could shoot more accurately, more quickly, and from cover could do great damage to the ranks of an enemy formation that did not have that flexibility. Berdan lent his considerable influence to the project, was appointed Colonel for his efforts, and assumed command over the two regiments that came to be popularly known as Berdan's Sharpshooters.

Co D. 2nd United States Sharpshooters is a Civil War Reenactment unit which portray's the brave men of Col Berdan's Regiment.  Based in northern Oregon, the 2nd USSS keeps the memory of these brave men alive by participating in living history events, battle reenactment's, and school presentations.
